Summer’s Here!

Well, summer’s finally here and we’ve been very busy at Frethub HQ, despite the daily temptation to head down to Brighton Beach.

We’re currently adding fresh and exciting new content to our new Intermediate Level section.

Here, you will find hours of video lessons, including an in-depth study of “The Modal System” and 2 brand new modules, weighing in at an impressive 5 hours a piece: “Soloing With Arpeggios” and  “150 Rock Licks You Need To Know”. We’re also currently in the process of editing an exciting series of lessons entitled “Funk Rhythm Guitar”, which should be live on the site very soon.

Here’s some more information about the new lessons you can expect to find in our Intermediate Level section:

The Modal System

If the concept of Modes seems like a mystery to you, this series of lessons will give you a deep understanding of the modal system. If you already know the major scale, there’s a strong chance you may have already been using some of the modes without even knowing it. You may have heard the names: Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and Locrian. These are the modes of the major scale and although there are other more exotic modes and scales, these seven are the most commonly used in modern music.

Over the following lessons, we break down the theory and applications of the Modal System step by step, giving you plenty of demo solos to inspire you, encouraging you to play along with the 8 backing tracks and come up with your own ideas. Later, we show you how to incorporate pentatonic scales into your modal playing, giving you even more possibilities when soloing.

Soloing With Arpeggios

Everything you ever wanted to know about arpeggios, but were afraid to ask! This mammoth series of lessons spans 33 videos and weighs in at over 5 hours of great guitar lessons!

FretHub presents an in-depth study on spicing up lead breaks using arpeggios and locating chord tones. Learn the CAGED shapes for major, minor, diminished, maj7, min7, dom7 & minor 7 flat 5 arpeggios, allowing you to solo freely all over the neck. The series of lessons also covers arpeggio substitution, 2 note-per-string arpeggio shapes, string skipping ideas, David Gilmour-esque mini-sweeps, funky rhythm guitar playing and if that wasn’t enough, Bobby finishes by teaching you how to play the solo in introduction video!

150 Rock Licks You Need To Know

This does exactly what it says on the tin. Here you’ll find a massive 5 hours of classic rock licks to add to your arsenal. Most of the content here you will have heard on many a famous rock album so now you can see how it’s done! We break down and explain in detail all the techniques and tricks used to play a huge amount of licks. These licks form the foundation of most blues rock based guitar playing and the techniques you learn here will be invaluable to you for creating new ideas and solos.

We’ve got so much more planned for you at FretHub, so watch this space.

Have a great week,

Bobby and Nick.
